Oakwood Shores
Chicago, Illinois
This project represents a $220 million redevelopment of land owned by the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) to replace troubled public housing buildings with vibrant mixed-income communities. The development includes low-income, affordable, and market-rate rental and for-sale housing units.
Oakwood Shores features 455 homes with floor plans ranging from one to five bedrooms. Each building type offers alternate elevation designs and exterior color packages, creating diverse yet harmonious streetscapes.
FitzGerald’s master plan reestablishes the traditional street grid and alley system lost during earlier urban renewal efforts, restoring the neighborhood’s historic character with a pedestrian-friendly streetscape. To enhance the site’s design, the largest structures are strategically positioned at street corners, serving as visual anchors and gateways while separating the largest volumes across the development.
