Salvation Army Western Plains Camp

South Sioux City, Nebraska

The Salvation Army’s Western Plains Camp in South Sioux City, Nebraska, situated on Crystal Lake, is a 113-acre camp—formerly known as Camp Goodwill—that was expanded to support new programs and a larger volume of guests and campers. Partnering with Confluence and DGR Engineering, the design team expanded landscaping and pathways to capture the scenic forest and designed new lodges as well as a new chapel with picturesque views over the lake. The cabins were completed in time for summer activities to begin, with plans for additional facilities, including the Forest Lodge and Boat House, potentially to follow in a future phase of the camp’s development.
