Richard Whitney
Principal, Vice President
Since 1990, Rick has applied his passion for engaging architecture to many of FitzGerald’s most successful commissions, large and small. A leader in the firm’s pursuit of senior housing, affordable housing, and adaptive reuse projects, Rick helps developers and owners realize their visions for a variety of uses and functions. He is a champion of the firm’s belief that the adaptation and rehabilitation of older buildings is a viable and effective course of action to energize the performance of existing assets while preserving community, history, and context.
From individual buildings to planned communities, Rick has led projects that enhance the built environment for existing tenants, new users, and surrounding communities. Rick’s skill and knowledge have contributed to the success of a diverse range of FitzGerald’s award-winning residential, commercial, and hospitality projects.
An amateur musician and a very amateur astronomer, Rick and his wife Tamra have raised two children and have managed their own renovation project in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood for over 30 years.
