332 South Michigan Avenue
Chicago, Illinois
332 South Michigan began with an unusual assignment: convert the top six floors of an existing 20-story office building into residential condominiums while retaining the existing office uses on the lower floors. Its location on Michigan Avenue provides convenient access to the Art Institute and Symphony Hall and offers unobstructed views of Grant Park and the lake. A new lobby for the residences was created on Michigan Avenue, adjacent to the office entrance. Two of the existing office elevators were reversed and refurbished to provide exclusive residential use. Parking for the residents was achieved by demolishing part of the first floor and inserting an additional mezzanine floor between the first and second floors. This created three floors of completely concealed parking within the original first floor and basement of this landmark building.
